Some facts to consider |
- Tons of space and bandwidth
It's amazing how some hosting companies have started
to offer webspace in upwards of 5GBs and bandwidth in upwards of
50GBs for under $7! Most people easily get lured into such promotions
without knowing that 1) they will most certainly never use that much
space and bandwidth, 2) the hosting company will go bankrupt and will
have to close down if even 30% of their customers start using their
full alloted space and/or bandwidth.
Seems unbelievable, ain't it? This tactic is called overselling and
there are lots of articles all over the web about it, we especially
like WHreviews.com article.

It's funny how some web hosting companies get around
with overselling even when they have a loudspeaker on their website
saying, "Hey! I oversell, wanna buy?". No, we are not kidding. Almost
every other web host has started reselling nowadays. If you wanna
catch the culprits red-handed, check their resellers page. We bet
you'll find similar space/bandwidth as their shared hosting packages,
the one that a end-user buys, for a price atleast 3 times high! Why
the difference? Well, resellers sell that space/bandwidth to multiple
users (again, an end-user like you) which results in an almost
complete utilization of the alloted space/bandwidth. We hope the
point is clear to you by now.

- What is wrong with over-selling?
Using available bandwidth/space to the full is not
at all wrong but the problem lies in today's ever growing usage of
blogs/forums. Statistics show that more than 90% of web users install
some kind of blog/forum software on their website. These blogs/forums
on a personal website don't take that much of space but their
scripts/database calls do put some good load on the server
processors. Consider this situation, a web host's server has 80GB
disk space and 500GB bandwidth. If the company doesn't oversell they
can create 16 accounts of 5GB each. Suppose they do and they create
150 accounts. Sadly, they can easily get by doing that because most
customers will not use more than 500MB of their allocated space (to
give you an idea, a busy personal website with forum takes about
30MB-50MB, same goes for a blog). Now consider the load on the server
CPUs when 100 users simultaneously start using their forums/blogs.
The outcome: every website on the server gets sluggish, at worst,
visitors get a time out error.

First off, let us make one thing clear, we DO NOT
oversell. We use a low margin - more customers business model. We do
not offer impractical packages i.e. space in tens of GBs, or
bandwidth in hundreds of GBs. You might have noticed our thoughtful
basic plan offering 50MB space and 1GB monthly bandwidth for a mere
20 bucks/year. This plan is especially designed for students and
net-starters who constitute a major chunk of our customers. Give us a
try and you won't be disappointed.
